Not another IoT-protocol
Status Quo
IoT does not lack standards for controlling devices (from Zigbee for home automation to IEC 61850 for complex control technology). Still, with a controllable hardware usually also an own software for exactly the products of the manufacturer is delivered. The problem of the interaction of different devices from different manufacturers is also known and there are different solution concepts e.g. Home-Assistant.
The complexity of the standards combined with the high integration effort is hardly justifiable if the primary tasks are restricted to monitoring or simple control actions e.g. switch a washing machine on/off remotely or adjust the temperature of a heater.
The market potential for data in connection with IoT is constantly increasing - especially in the course of 5G an enormous growth is expected.
UNITED-PAGES
UNITED-PAGES comes into play at IOT under different aspects:
- devices or their management systems do not allow any external access for security reasons, but certain information is to be published (UNITED-PAGES as data proxy)
- the user wants uniform access not only to IOT data (UNITED-PAGES as multi-purpose microservice)
- simple interface for the presentation of data from IOT devices (KISS)
On the part of the hardware manufacturers, only an easy to develop proxy functionality would have to be offered. The approach benefits from the inherent data protection procedures of UNITED-PAGES and can also be judged much more confidently by network administrators than proprietary solutions, which are already available today for a wide range of coffee machines.

The user can immediately get an overview from the example on the left:
- Washing machine is running and everything is fine (Status = UP, Severity = OK )
- Dishwasher requires attention (Status = TESTING, Severity = WARNING)
- Toaster has serious problem (Status = DOWN, Severity = CRITICAL)
- Coffee machine obviously switched off (Status = NONE, Severity = NONE)
If interested, the user can display more detailed information by making a selection.
If this is not sufficient and the device offers a special web tool, you can go there directly or contact an operator.
